A nerdy, practical Sunday morning deep-dive for Mat Pilates teachers who want better eyes, better cues, and a better practice.

Learning to work with low back pain bias/inhibition

Sunday, July 5 | 10:00 to 12:30

Pilatescene Briarhill With Suzie Dodd

10 places max

Price: 90 euros

If you have worked with me - you will know I am a complete nerd - I love to take a very complex idea and communicate it really simply so it lands with clients in their bodies - I am very passionate about the material in this workshop - its the astrolabe of the pelvis…. this may well end up a series of workshops but lets do one to get the ball rolling.

  • What actually happens when we arch the spine vs flex it?

  • What changes when we rotate the pelvis?

  • Why are we so good on one side and a mess on the other?

  • Why does back pain persist ?

This workshop answers those questions using solid Pilates Imagery and will make you a better teacher.

What I’m covering -

This is a teacher-only deep dive into:

  • Habitual pelvic holding patterns and hence lumbar facet mobility.

  • Bias (what the body is choosing and how it shows up) - habits

  • Inhibition (what’s not showing up, and how to invite it back) - nothing happening

We’ll do the nerdy bit (properly) and then we’ll apply it to simple, everyday exercises you teach all the time like -

  • Single Leg Stretch

  • Shoulder Bridge

  • Leg Circles

  • Overhead

So you’re not leaving with interesting variations of an exercise - you’re leaving with a concept you can plant in, to change every exercise for the better - to really impact and make a difference for your clients and for your own body. We are talking serious upskill in motor control.

What you’ll leave with

By the end of the 2.5 hours you’ll have:

  • A cleaner way to assess what’s happening in your own pelvis and lumbar spine (without overcomplicating it) and hence your clients

  • More confidence choosing the right exercise + the right variation and which ones to avoid.

  • Better language for cueing without cue-overload

  • A framework you can use Monday morning in your practice immediately - once you’ve nailed that you can bring it to your clients - practice always comes first for me.

Why I’m teaching this (and why it’s gold)?

I’m not lying: This concept completely changed my own practice. My motor control is so much better organised and that’s why I teach it.

It also changed my Leg Circle, my Saw, and lets not even go with the Corkscrew - forever and once you see why you’ll be on my page and you’ll never look back.

For teachers it’s a pure gold nugget: a way to see bias clearly. understand inhibition, and get the lumbar spine doing the job for a change - instead of doing all your spinal work from up the chain - or down in the hips/ feet. Gaaaah - I am so excited about this…

This is one of those rare workshops where you learn a single organising idea and suddenly your cueing, your exercise choices and your confidence all level up.

Who it’s for (and who it’s not)

This is for you if you’re a Pilates teacher - mat who:

  • Loves detail and wants to understand the why

  • Teaches real bodies and wants to help clients

  • Wants practical tools for low back pain clients

  • Loves digging in with a nerdy group of pilates people

  • Likes concentrating while moving

Not for you if you want:

  • A generic workshop day - looking for a burn. This is not a work-out its a work-in. But it will be the best workout you’ve ever done because its deep work.

The details

  • Time: 10:00 - 12:30

FAQs

Do I need loads of experience? No. If you’re teaching mat and you want sharper tools - you’ll get loads from it.

Will this be too heady? It’s nerdy yes but always practical. The whole point is making it usable in real teaching and bring it back to real bodies and real body movement. You will move with a lot of intention in this workshop.

Why only 10 places? Because this isn’t a lecture. It’s a proper deep dive and I want time for questions and clarity.

Can I bring a friend?Yes - if they teach - just book quickly. It’s capped.

Ready to nerd out (and teach better on Monday)?

If you’re craving a workshop that feels like clear thinking, better teaching and a lot of nerdy joy this is it.
